If you’re a friend of mine, you’ve probably heard me talk about my love of Artfully Walls.  I can’t remember how I stumbled upon this site, but boy am I glad I did!  When I hit full-on crisis mode designing my dining room (full blog post on this coming soon) the gallery wall I created is really what finally pulled it all together.  Unlike the symmetrical black and white photo gallery wall on my staircase I just shared, the gallery wall in my dining room is asymmetrical, colorful and full of art!  Completely out of my comfort zone to be honest.  For one, I know very little about fine art, I just know I like color.  Also as you can tell from my ALGEBRA in my last post, I’m math brained.  Asymmetry does not compute.  So again, this wall wasn’t really in my wheelhouse.  But Artfully Walls makes designing your own wall (or using one of their pre-designed galleries) so easy that any fear or intimidation goes out the window.

So like I’ve mentioned there are two ways to use their site.  The most straightforward way is to browse their extensive variety of pre-designed gallery walls.  These are custom curated galleries whose art is hand selected by designers to achieve a certain look or theme.  The designers have also chosen proper frames, matting and – the most awesome part – arranged them for you with exact hanging directions.  If you purchase the whole set, it’s 20% off and right now an ADDITIONAL 30% off that!  It’s bonkers how cool this feature is.  Here are a couple of screen shots of the “gallery walls” portion of the site in action.

The second way to use this site is to purchase art ad hoc and therefore create your own unique gallery wall.  The site has a stellar feature called a “wall designer” where you can drag and drop art, adjust size and frame, mat or no mat, and background wall color to give you a good idea of what it will look like on your wall.  Here is my wall in progress, with art selected but not framed or arranged.  I was looking for a wall color like my actual color and settled on “Caribbean Blue.”

Then I started playing with frames, mats, sizes, placement, etc.  You name it.  This part is fun!

Finally I found an arrangement I really liked.  Boom!

I’ve got to say it’s pretty mind-blowing how well this site helps you visualize how your wall will look.  It is by far the best tool I’ve found for gallery wall design.  AND the framed prints are cheaper than you can find elsewhere.  For example The “Young Lady” framed print in the lower left is $188 at Anthropologie, I paid $85.  Anthro’s print is larger but since I matted mine, the frames are roughly the same size.  Oh that’s the other benefit of this site:  the ability to customize!  There are so many beautiful frame options to choose from, and sometimes a girl just wants a mat!
