Five Minute Styling Challenge

So you have unexpected guests coming through town. Or your kids are actually playing quietly with each other for once and that neglected corner of your living room is begging for a facelift. Whatever it is, you may have found yourself in a hurry to get a space updated in a limited amount of time. Here’s a quick and dirty tutorial on how to style in less than 5 minutes.
- Use what you have. If you are like me, you have a handful of vases and a bin of framed photos collecting dust in a closet. Or maybe you have a shelf that’s overcrowded with framed photos that you can pull from. If all else fails borrow from an item from a space that isn’t as high traffic like a bedroom or office. Maybe you’ll like its new home!
- If you want to get fancy you can visually divide your space into sections. Depending on the size of your area, this could be anywhere from 2-5 or even more specific areas
- Add some green. Here I grabbed some branches off the olive tree in our front yard. Faux plants or grass would work great too but nature is incredible especially this time of year. I dry branch with some fall leaves scattered around it could be stunning!
- Use the rule of threes. This is nothing new but it works. In both sections 1 and 2, I placed groups of three items with varying heights and textures.
- Decide if you have a “feature” section and what that is. Then decorate that simply. For my piano the eye is naturally drawn to the keys and music rack of the piano (section 3) so I placed only one piece of music on the rack and centered it.
- Add a throw and voila. A styled area in under five minutes.
It’s like a one room challenge but a five-minute challenge. Try it out in a space in your home and share it with me. Can’t wait to see what you can do in five minutes!
