My Master Bedroom Makeover – Week 1
Hello friends! Sorry it’s been a while. We’ve been having so much fun getting into the holiday spirit around here. Our outdoor lights and tree have been up for a couple of weeks already (I know, it’s December 4th… I was excited) and I put up this nightmare Christmas Village thing my Mother In Law gave me that I actually totally LOVE. It took me over 5 hours to assemble exactly how I wanted with a house on a “hill” and a bookstore with shoppers, 12 streetlights and children sledding amongst other things (fences, a bell tower, benches, dogs, etc.) Like I said, nightmare. But so so so cute.
While my kids watch the Muppet’s Christmas Carol and eat carrots on the couch (nothing like carrots before 10am) I want to update you on my super top-secret latest home decor project – our Master Bedroom Makeover!!! The “super top-secret” part is because this will be my Christmas present to Sean. Due to budgetary constraints but also just for practicality, we decided to forego wrapped gifts this year in exchange for home improvements projects. The not so “top-secret” part is the fact that my husband still has to sleep in our bedroom so he sees each step in the process, currently including but not limited to: five paint samples painted on two different walls, a half painted ceiling, furniture displacement, and so on. He’s probably really loving this gift. 😉
Our bedroom has been the same since we moved into our home a year and a half ago. It’s mostly unfurnished (we don’t even have nightstands) and generally it’s just a little boring. There are some really nice updates like the reclaimed wood accent wall and the barn door. But it’s a really large room that is crying for some pizzazz! So pizzazz we shall bring!
I honestly think this vision came to me in a dream because I woke up and could just see the end product: a dark dramatic teal green, a nook with a playful geometric print, and my FAVORITE wallpaper ever on a cute accent wall. Yes please! I know it sounds crazy, and it might actually turn out crazy too. But I think it will work because our bedroom is really large with some interesting architectural details that create small areas within the broader room. There are two nooks that seem designed for a sitting area or a small desk, and can be further defined by some fun walls! I probably wouldn’t try something like this in a simple rectangular room (never say never though.) I put together a Pinterest board, and then another one once I narrowed down my colors and patterns. Then I made a fancy mood board because I’m a nerd.
Clockwise from top: palm wallpaper / benjamin moore miramichi / geometric wallpaper / card catolog coffee table / bed frame /
I’ll give you guys weekly updates until I’m done with the project. Stay tuned!
