Dining Room Reveal

Good morning and happy Friday friends!  What’s everyone up to this weekend?  I’m headed out of town this afternoon for my very first GIRLS TRIP since HAVING KIDS!!!  That’s FIVE years!!!  I kind of am anticipating something happening that will prevent this whole thing from coming to fruition because it’s one of those too-good-to-be-true days.  So instead of repeating doomsday scenarios through my brain, finally writing my dining room blog post might be a more productive option!  😉

When we bought our house almost two years ago many rooms were total blank slates, including the dining room.  Our dining room completely opens to the adjacent formal living room and our entryway/hallway, and while we were very happy with an open concept floorplan, we wanted there to feel like there was some separation between the rooms while also maintaining cohesion.  The cohesive element translated to wainscoting which we installed in all three of those rooms and was pretty much #1 on our to-do list when we moved in (blog post on that coming at some point.)  And once that was installed, the only full wall in the dining room was BEGGING for an accent color.  I tried three different teal blues (that is a REALLY low number for me… I average 6-10 when testing colors) and the clear winner was Seaworthy by Sherwin Williams.  It’s truly the PERFECT teal blue.  It’s a true blue without being too navy or too green.  I was SO EXCITED to see my teal vision come to life!

But in all honesty when the accent wall first got painted I was very torn.  It felt TOO blue, TOO bold.  It didn’t go with anything in the rest of our greige home.  And I would say I struggled with this dining room for months, going back and forth about painting it back to a neutral or doubling down and painting the WHOLE room blue.  I tried jewel toned chairs and large wood chairs, we moved in cabinets and consoles, various tables.  Nothing worked.  I’ve gotta be honest.  This was the HARDEST room I’ve ever done.   I felt like I had tried everything and everything failed.  That is until I found the curtains.

The curtains MADE the room.  They weren’t my first choice.  I didn’t want blue curtains, and wasn’t particularly in love with the pattern.  But the colors.  Teal and purple, a light blue, and even a cream to tie in with the other walls.  Praise the Lord for these curtains.  I was so happy to call it a day on this room it took me over a year to get around to hemming them to a proper length.  I finally did this yesterday, which you saw if you follow my Instagram Stories 🙂  I also dressed up my table like we were having a fancy dinner party so that I could take pretty pictures for this blog and BOY did having all my fine china out make me happy.  I feel like the china needs a blog post of it’s own…. that might happen 🙂

Anyway here are a few of the details that made this complex room WORK.
