My Master Bedroom Week 3: Done Painting and Some Random Musings

My Master Bedroom Week 3: Done Painting and Some Random Musings

Hello again friends!  I am currently sitting in front of the fire watching something really festive – a documentary on the Monica Lewinsky scandal.  So not festive at all, but seriously that whole thing was so crazy!  Let’s discuss what the meaning of the word “is” is, everyone.  Regardless of the semantics, in many ways that affair is the type of thing that would be scrutinized even more-so now in the social media age.  Alternatively it would also stack up as peanuts in terms of the drama in our current administration.  How Trump has managed to skate through two years and the dozens (maybe hundreds) of various allegations against him is just bonkers.  I think Clinton was just held to a higher standard because he was perceived as a “good guy” and he internalized that so much so, he felt inclined to apologize to the people, poor guy.  Not enough to stay faithful, but he couldn’t just lie to his constituents about it.  There’s something to be said for that.

Anyway…. back to our regular programming!  So guys, I FINISHED PAINTING MY BEDROOM!  If you followed my stories last week you may have caught my breakdown when I realized the ceiling needed another coat of paint and I couldn’t decide on what green to paint the walls and I was going to eat a gun.  Instead I grabbed my rolling brush with dried paint on it and tried to fix it immediately but just splattered paint all over myself and the carpet and my nice Lululemon shirt, proceeded to post some manic IG stories, delete them, and spend the rest of the evening crying.

But the next day I woke up and properly touched up the ceiling and went to the paint store and purchased a different shade of green paint (Tarrytown Green) that I liked much better and was able to roll out the walls in a day.  I had a minor set back when I needed another gallon of Tarrytown and used it for touch up, and it was DIFFERENT from the first gallon.  So I cried more.  But I pulled it together and did another full coat of paint and THANK GOD it’s fine now.  So, it was a looooong road to get here but I’m here.

I still have some detail touch up to do and I’m still planning on stenciling the accent wall, but after that hellish paint experience AND given that it’s 6 days until Christmas, I’m cutting myself some slack and not stressing about getting it done ASAP.  So technically I might not have a “Week 4” update until week 5 and I’m okay with that.

Speaking of 6 days until Christmas, I wanted to share a couple of cute traditions we implemented in our household this year.

  1.  The NO GIFT Advent Calendar.  This idea came from my bestie who got it from her sister-in-law.  (Thanks Em and Mar!)  Rather than spending even more time and stress on what to put in the advent calendar every day for TWENTY FIVE DAYS, just use a candy cane to mark what day it is and allow the kids to countdown until Christmas.  And if you’re like me and a real candy cane won’t work in your world because your kids will eat it, well then use a plastic ornament!  I have a cheap candy cane ornament that works perfectly! ***Side note – I had my advent calendar monogrammed with our last name.  I now realize this was supposed to be with first names and it makes me feel uncomfortable every time I look at it.***
  2. Letters to Santa to KEEP.  I bought this adorable mailbox last year and it’s giant and annoying to store.  ****Speaking of, who are these people who have tons fake gifts on their front porches and under their trees on November 25th?  Do they really store fake wrapped presents year round???  WHO has space for this???  Do they have entire bins filled with FAKE PRESENTS???***  I digress.  So I don’t love having to store big bulky things, but I thought since I have to store this mailbox anyway, I might as well keep the kid’s letters to Santa in it.  So for two years now I’ve left their wish lists in the Santa mailbox and it’s SO FUN to bring them out with the Christmas decorations and reminisce about what they’ve asked for or wanted to tell Santa in past years.  And one day in the far far future when they outgrow Santa (never, please) I can put the letters in their baby books.  But not until after I look at them one more time and cry even more than I did last week.  Sheesh.  Oh and also “Santa” can respond to their letters which he planned to do last week but got stuck in paint hell.  😉

So since this is probably my last full blog post until Christmas, I want to thank you for taking the time to follow my little passion project.  I know my style is funky and different and not likely to be yours.  And I’m TOTALLY okay with that!  My goal is that it is FUN and PLAYFUL!  Home decor is like art and should inspire, not intimidate!

So from Bill Clinton to Christmas ideas, to deep thoughts, and back… lots of musings (and tears) this week.  All to end with this – I hope you have a wonderful holiday that is uniquely yours.

xo
