My Master Bedroom Makeover Week 4: Wallpaper Sneak Peek

My Master Bedroom Makeover Week 4: Wallpaper Sneak Peek

Hello friends!  Holy cow it’s been a minute.  My apologies!  Between the holidays and some unexpected family health-related emergencies (including a trip to the ER at midnight Christmas morning) we have been crazy busy and overwhelmed and stressed and all the things.   I can honestly say 2019 is starting off with a $hitty $hitty bang bang.  But you know, such is life.  You can only control what you can control, and for the rest there’s beer.  Terrible joke, especially since Sean and I are on day 6 of #whole30 and have MAYBE been totally compliant 2 of the days.  But they’re just guidelines, right???  Later this week I’ll be sharing a recipe I’ve been making for 7 or 8 years that turns out is accidentally 100% in line with #whole30!!!  But today I’m finally sharing my latest bedroom makeover update:  our super fancy new wallpaper accent wall!!!

Since I’m still in the process of styling the space, this is only a sneak peek.  BUT it’s a really really good sneak peek because the wallpaper is so darn purty!  It is called LIMERENCE which is manufactured and sold by House of Hackney but variations can also be found at Anthropologie under the name “Palm”.  This pattern in a different color scheme, “Papyrus,” was featured in Anthro’s fall catalog and I fell in love with it.  I originally wanted to put it in my entryway but once my bedroom started coming together I knew the Light Mauve color pattern would be the most fabulously unexpected contrast to the Tarrytown Green walls.

At the time Anthro wasn’t having a sale, so I went directly to House of Hackney.  They sell the wallpaper in GBP but given the strength of USD, I knew I could get an AMAZING deal.  Did I lose you there?  In my past pre-full-time-mom life, I used to be a Currency Portfolio Manager.  Exchange rates are my jam.  Anyway, House of Hackney had a 20% off sale that ran a couple of days after I purchased, so I asked for a price adjustment and they were AWESOME and honored it.  I ordered two rolls and paid just under $400.  This would have cost $675 full price from Anthropologie!!!  The only downside was it took much longer to arrive, but it was worth the nearly $300 in savings!  Also I can’t say enough about the quality of the wallpaper.  We have textured walls and the paper is so thick you can’t see an inkling of texture under it.  And the colors are SO rich and luscious.  It sounds like I’m talking about lipstick, but I’m still talking about this wallpaper.  It’s amazeballs.

It took me about 5 hours to install today.  Here are the tools I used.

  1.  Level
  2. Roller
  3. Wallpaper adhesive
  4. Measuring tape
  5. Exacto knife
  6. Pencil
  7. Flattening device
  8. Not shown – wet rag

There are plenty of wallpaper installation tutorials out there so I won’t bore you with another.  But I did make a couple of mistakes that by sharing I hope will prevent anyone else from engaging in similar stupidity:

  1. Give yourself at least 2 inches of PATTERN slack at top and at the bottom.  I didn’t give myself enough and ended up having to cut off the wallpaper about 1/4 inch shy of the ceiling on my later rolls, because I started just a smidge from perfectly level.
  2. Buy a damn edge cutter.  I thought I could just cut it myself.  NOPE!  I wasted a ton of time trying to do this manually, the edge is still messed up, and I will have to go back to the hardware store and buy one anyway.

So here are the sneaky peeky pictures.

The before and after pics will be EPIC I tell you!  I’m giving myself a three-week deadline to be done with this whole room.  Lord help me.  Still to come – window coverings, stencil accent wall, and furnishings.  No big deal, right?  Wish me luck!

xo
