My Master Bedroom Makeover Week 5: Geometric Wall Stencil Hell

My Master Bedroom Makeover Week 5: Geometric Wall Stencil Hell

Howdy friends!  I’m just sitting down to give you an update on my room, and my life, because my fingernails are streaked with black acrylic paint, I have random white splatters in my hair, I’ve been in the same pajamas since 7pm last night (that’s coming up on 25 hours for those keeping score) and I haven’t showered in about four days.  SEND HELP.

BUT FINALLY I can put the paintbrush down because I am freakin’ done painting, b!tches!!!  Oh yeeeeah.  The accent wall is DONE!  And unless you look REALLY closely, it’s in good shape!  Score!  But not attained without some SERIOUS roadblocks.  I mean, I should have known stenciling a rather large wall with five edges (two of which were angled), two corners, and a damn window in the middle would be pretty challenging.  Plus my contrasting (difficult to hide) color choices PLUS a complex and NOT symmetrical stencil pattern EQUALS about four extra hours in clean up/touch up.  But now that I’m done I can say it was worth it.

I’ve already shared some stencil tips in My Living Room Fireplace blog post (click here for link) but here’s an additional word for the wise:  the amount of paint on your brush is KEY.  Too much paint looks like this:

Too little paint looks like this:

And the right amount of paint looks like this:

It’s so worth testing this out on cardboard beforehand because it will save you HOURS of touch up work in the long run.  Also pay SUPER close attention to your stencil especially if it has any non-repeating elements in it like this one, or you WILL mess up.  See my mess up here.

Can you find it?  Middle left hexagon filled in with five lines… Fortunately I caught it right away but it didn’t stop me from making the same mistake FOUR more times.  Sassafrassin!!!

So to remind you, here was my inspiration wallpaper:

This would have worked out to around $600.  So I found this stencil linked HERE from StenCilit and paid $52.98 out the door.  I sucked up about 16 hours of stenciling to save $550.  WORTH IT ALL DAY ERRRRREYDAY!!!

Here are some pretty pictures of this nook styled in a somewhat temporary state.

I stole these chairs from downstairs (originally from Wayfair, click here for link) but I like them here so they are staying.  I think I’ll go for a more modern metal side table and I definitely need a taller faux plant, and maybe some colorful art prints on the side walls too. What say you???  Give me your feedback!  And be sure to FOLLOW MY BLOG HERE to see my full master bedroom reveal coming in the next couple weeks!!!
